Inspired by Peace
The ሰላም :: Peace candle is comprised of aromatic cedarwood oil as its top note. Cedarwood is a woody scent carried lightly with citrus and balsamic undertones. The vanilla middle note (or heart note) offers warmth and sweetness to the Cedarwood.
Throughout history, vanilla has been used exclusively to fragrance shrines and temples; offering a sacred quality to the Selam candle. Finally, Selam leaves you with the fresh endnote of eucalyptus, a universal oil that is rich with natural compounds producing health-promoting effects.
Inspired by the temperate climates of East Africa and, more specifically, the spiritually significant waterfalls of the ደርዓንቶ (Deranto) region, the photography for this candle was captured in this region, a place where people of different faiths perform pilgrimage to the holy waterfalls for forest bathing.
In Japan, this ancient practice was named and popularized as shinrin-yoku or “taking in the forest atmosphere”. Similarly, the German concept of Muße, which has no translation in English, considers forest-bathing as a state of mindfulness, freedom from work and purpose.
