Inspired by Trust
The እምነት candle evokes an earthy, smoky, groundedness with its cigar-like, smokey tobacco basenote. The specific tobacco oil in this candle is reminiscent of a pungent oud, or ‘agarwood’ scent, used in Indigenous communities all over Turtle Island, the Middle East and North Africa.
Paired with the depth of the leather heartnote, this scent immediately offers a musky fragrance that is often referenced as masculine. The bourbon topnote allows a gentle and spicy finish, balancing its earthy and woodsy components with a complementary, soothing quality.
Inspired by two distinct ecosystems – the clay in the Sahara desert and the tall, thin aspen and paper birch trees in Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains during winter when the leaves have fallen – this scent emerges through the question: “what is left when everything falls away”? The answer for us is ‘trust’. Though these regions could not be more dissimilar, a walk through the barren desert and the labyrinthian paths of the Laurentians evokes the same fear of getting lost, of not knowing where to turn or what or who to rely on. This fragrance offers an antidote to that anxiety. It is grounding, warm, unpretentious and enduring.
